Twenty-Five Years Strong
The German watch brand A. Lange & Sohne unveiled their series of anniversary watches at the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie show. The fourth timepiece in this limited edition run is the Lange 1 Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar 25th Anniversary Watch. The design and material is similar to the other releases but aesthetically very pleasing and technically brilliant. With roots dating back to 1845 when Ferdinand Adolph Lange opened in the Saxony region, to the rebirth after the fall of the Berlin Wall by his great-grandson, the brand has made a major come back with 63 manufacture-made-calibers in just 25 years. Using these existing calibers to create this collection, but making them unique with their own limited edition personalities was a special tribute by the brand.
Case and Point
The beauty of this timepiece starts with the 18k white gold case, and features the asymmetrical dial crafted in solid silver and accented with rich blue colorations, blued-steel hands and the exclusive limited edition of 25 pieces. The exquisite leather alligator strap is also that matching hue of blue and the most differentiating element of this timepiece is the addition of a tourbillon hidden behind the dial inclusive of the perpetual calendar indication. Known for meticulous finishing the brand allows admiration of this work through a transparent case back. The movement, including that masterful tourbillon, the 21-karat gold central rotor, and the untreated German silver plates and bridges provide a truly spectacular sight. In order to pay homage to the anniversary, residing on the tourbillon cock, engraved in blue is the number 25. This date not only provides the tribute to this special day in history for A. Lange & Sohne, but also is a reference to the first Lange 1 and the 25 date displayed on that timepiece for the date it released to the world.
Power and Progress
The Lange 1 Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar 25th Anniversary Watch is valued by collectors for the level of complexity combined with the overall discretion provided. The timepiece is powered by the in-house L082.1 self-winding, 624-part, one-minute tourbillon that incorporates the brand’s patented stop-seconds mechanism. Crafted like the original timepiece the inner working keeps the precision and excellence of this watch to be set to one-second accuracy. The perpetual calendar provides the moon phase display, accurate for 122.6 years before needing adjustment. All of these calendar indications switch at the same time, making one spectacular timepiece. A dream that never died, from a brand that continues to breath.
