Hublot, a brand with unprecedented success, has redesigned one of the favorites, the Big Bang watch with the Unico manufacture movement, now on a smaller scale, 42mm, but with the same giant brilliance. The movement is the motor that drives and defines the brand, developed totally inhouse, and now with the further development taking it to a new level. These new proportions open a new door for the future and truly an iconic moment for the brand.
For those not familiar with the brand, Hublot in French means “porthole”, which was the subtle aesthetic influence behand the case designs for the timepieces. The brand began in the early 1980’s and captured the luxury feel with the masculine designs, and the Big Bang 44 ‘Original’ watch. Definitive and dramatic this timepiece from the beginning to the newly released is the most coveted of them all.
After the Swiss watch manufactory Hublot presented their modelsdecorated with lace and denim, it was the turn of the new material – flax. Made in the traditional Big Bang 45 mm housing (with water resistance to 100 m), MECA-10 were presented in two versions, large-series titanium and limited (only 500 copies.) But just for 33 years this brand managed to gain international fame, becoming the legislator fashion watch and enter the top of the most expensive timepieces in the world. This newest timepiece is designed with the signature yellow and purple color way is a great match up to the blacked out high tech brand aesthetic. Featuring the collection 48mm case in carbon fiber, with a black micro blasted ceramic and titanium bezel. Using the team logo and colors, the skeleton dial gives way to the HUB 4228 automatic chronograph movement, whose counter goes up to 48 minutes, the exact length of the NBA games. The team logo is also emblazoned on the sapphire caseback.
Hublot has been the first luxury brand to sign up major sports teams, soccer in 2007, NBA teams in 2011 and now the NFL with Dallas Cowboys Football Team Sponsorship. Certainly the famed team has expanded sponsorships to more than normal football products with this signing, but not out of the ordinary for the timepiece manufacturer. The themed timepieces, a collection of three limited-edition team branded watches that sport the blue and silver team colors.
The timepieces from the brand will be sold at the brand boutique in Dallas and of course in the teams owner’s lounge at AT&T Stadium in a pop-up shop. In addition to the trio of watches, the brand will put clocks on the stadium walls, on the jumbotrons and they will manage the pre-game countdowns. Quite a partnership for the famed duos, matching “America’s Team” with the global timepiece favorite.
Luxury watch creating company Hublot was founded by Carlo Crocco in 1980, when he combined gold and rubber for the first time in watchmaking history, to create the Hublot timepiece. This timepiece featured the black rubber strap and minimalist black dial that were to become the symbol of this brand of watches – this symbol became known as the “Fusion” concept; and the rubber strap, unheard of before this time, soon became standard on many sports pieces. The company’s first chronograph was launched in 1986, and for their 20th anniversary they released The Art Collection. Jean-Claude Biver took over as CEO in May of 2004, leaving Crocco time to devote to his creative work and multiple charitable activities for underprivileged children. Biver returned the brand to it’s founding principles and it’s “The Art of Fusion” concept, with the “Big Bang” timepiece winning Best Design at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Geneve, the very next year. Though a young brand, this company quickly became known as the the choice of European royalty; and continues to expand, with plans to continue to do so, in coming years.
The brand’s Masterpiece collection traveled through Kuala Lumpur in 2011, as part of the Journey of Time exhibition. The collection was included in the exhibition due to the fact that it includes several innovative pieces, including the “Key of Time”, which allows the wearer to speed up and slow down time; as well as the Alternative Pocketwatch, which is shaped like a bullet!
