The special event to honor famous prize fighter Ali took place on Saturday, March 24th. The watch was presented to Muhammad Ali at an annual event in Phoenix, Arizona, the Celebrity Fight Night Gala, which was attended by many famous Hollywood celebrities including actor Tom Hanks. The annual gala has been supported by Ali for many years, and was originally conceived to raise funds for his charity, the Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center. It was the 18th year that many of Ali’s Hollywood friends were present to support the well-known charity.
Along with the IWC Muhammad Ali Limited-Edition Watch, an auction was held to raise funds for the Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center. The IWC’s Limited Edition Muhammad Ali created in white gold raised $60,000 for the charity. The special, limited edition watch features unusual hands and appliques created in red shades. Red is also used on the inside of the watch band, which is created of black alligator leather. Red is used to signify the color Ali used for his boxing gloves. An engraving on the caseback of the watch says “Edition Muhammad Ali, ONE OUT OF ONE.”
The IWC Muhammad Ali Limited-Edition Watch is a special moment in the life of the famous athlete, since he was named Sportsman of the Century. His signature is engraved on the caseback of the limited edition watch along with the special engraving. The IWC wanted to honor Muhammad Ali in a special way for his 70th birthday, and chose to have the watch created in his honor. The limited edition watch that was designed especially for the famous boxer is created in white gold.
For the IWC Muhammad Ali Limited-Edition Watch, Schaffhausen chose the Big Pilot’s watch to honor the legendary Muhammad Ali. The IWC Big Pilot’s Muhammad Ali Edition 2012 is unique because it’s limited to only one watch in a white gold case which has a diameter of 46 mm. Anti-reflective coatings protect the sapphire crystals which are scratch-resistant. The watch also features an inner case which is constructed of soft iron. This was done to protect the watch from any magnetic fields. The mechanism is designed so that when it’s fully wound, it can provide power for up to 7 days when it’s charged. The dial of the watch is black and features signal-red indicators. The hands are designed to resemble propellers, with a coating of luminous red that shows up well even in the dark.
