The Return of the Zenith Rainbow Watch for 2013 will not only introduce a new limited edition version, but it will bear the name El Primero Stratos Flyback Boutique Edition, and will only have 250 pieces produced. This timepiece became popular in the 90’s, manufactured for the French aviation club and featuring bold aviation colors. This new version is spectacular in design and technological innovation.
The brand crafted the movement especially for this collection, and added the flyback mechanism which is now used in many of the brand timepieces. The original versions represented reliability, as well as artistic mastery. The new timepiece is 45.5mm wide and the case is constructed in black Alchron titanium and aluminum alloy. It is lightweight, striking in appearance with the ceramic bezel, and the slightly sloped design is both technically challenging and beautiful.
The new Zenith Rainbow watch means the return of the red colored markers, a part of the timepiece theme. The real difference in this latest timepiece is the dial. A very distinct dial takes it’s place, instead of the baton hour markers you have raised luminescent-filled Arabic hour numerals, and the name has been removed, replacing the dial with a more matte color.
The chronograph and subsidiary hands are unique, in addition the chronograph sub dials are also featuring a new look. Instead of overlapping as they did with the older models the chronograph hour sub dial is smaller and there is no overlapping. Of course the timepiece features the iconic chronograph minute counter, with striking white, red, green and yellow sections.
The brilliant movement that is historical for the brand is also present on Zenith Rainbow watch, and is still viewable through the exhibition case back window. The timepiece features a power reserve of 50 hours and operates at 36,000 bph. While the excitement is high for the timepiece, it is only available as limited edition and therefore collectors will have to act if they want to be one of the lucky ones to get their hands on this special piece. It is definitely a great watch and such a shame they didn’t add them to the collection permanently.
