One of the finest Swiss watch manufacturers, Cvstos, was founded by Sassoun Sirmakes and and Antonio Terranova in 2005. The name originates from the Latin word ‘custos’ which means guardian. One of the founders, Sirmakes comes from a history of watchmaking, his father Vartan was co-owner and on the executive board of Franck Muller Watchland Group. The other founder, Terranova, worked as a designer with TAG Heuer and other companies as a freelancer. So horological excellence is the foundation for this brand, and the reason for success.
The watches the brand has presented blend traditional values of Swiss craftsmanship with new avant-garde design. Utilizing modern materials such as Titanium, Palladium, and rubber the watchmaker designs incorporate a large tonneau case and delivered two main lines, the Challenger and Pagani. The models feature an open dial design and allows the beauty of the detailed movement to be clearly visible. If just glancing at the timepiece you might think it is a skeleton dial, but in reality the collection features a clear sapphire dial and exhibition back. This is the brand signature and some say very similar in appearance to Richard Mille, but definitely a sportier look and much more reasonable price.
There are some striking timepieces in the collection. CVSTOS designs have a subtle elegance while still maintaining a sport feel, so they can truly go from day to night, informal to formal and they are breathtaking. One of the favorites in the collection is the Challenge Jet-Liner, Limited Edition Carbon Red Gold, the Tonneau-shaped large case, Arabic numbers sitting on the sapphire dial, beautiful finishes that combine red gold and carbon fiber for an exquisite piece. Another spectacular timepiece from the brand, the Challenge Tourbillon Yachting Club, designed in platinum, and as obvious as the name would indicate it is built on the yachting theme and limited to 25 pieces. Every piece in the brand collections touch on sports, Italian automobiles, rare and collectible. CVSTOS has partnered with Pagani creating a timepiece that captures the heritage, has limited production and of course provides one with details of the automobile that are evident in the case.
While the brand is relatively new to the horological playing field, they have come out of the gate strong and show a well-designed collection, and a future that is bright. The expansion of the brand continues, and they have settled into a new location in Geneva city center, complete with a showroom, workshop and the management team. Unique timepieces that encompass really contemporary style, elegance and fun are the base for CVSTOS and we look forward to seeing what new designs will be introduced.
