Jaeger LeCoultre

In 1833, in the Vallee de Joux, Charles-Antoine LeCoultre founded a workshop to pursue his passion for timekeeping and innovation. Inventing a machine that produced watchmaking pinions he wanted to bring his ideas to the Swiss watchmaking industry. He worked to build a brand that could bring everything he loved together. In 1937 with a merger, Parisian watchmaker Edmond Jaeger SA joined LeCoultre and dreams started to become reality.

The region of the Swiss Vallee de Joux is known worldwide for their watch manufacturing. The region recognition certainly is in part because of the Jaeger-LeCoultre success. The quality that the founders placed emphasis on in their timepieces was the foundation the brand was built on. Precise movements is a characteristic of the brand that continues today. The brand invented the Mollionmeter, the first measuring device that allows measurements up to a thousandth of a millimeter. They created the world’s smallest mechanical movement called the calibre101. They invented the keyless watch, the revolutionary system that allowed timepieces to be wound without a key. A pushbutton was used to activate a lever that would then change functions. Today that invention can be found in almost all mechanical timepieces. The rectangular Reverso is also a legendary design that has long since influenced the features of the modern watch.

Jaeger-LeCoultre received many honors for their inventions, creating calibres with complications that were unmatched in the accuracy and dependability. The original LeCoultre & Cie had a hand in developing chronographs, alarms, calendars and tourbillon mechanisms. Edmond Jaeger was a talented watchmaker and produced refined movements used in measuring speed. Together these men brought their creations together working on timepieces that increased the reliability and precision of smaller watches and movements. The brand designed a creation with the help of engineer Rene-Alfred Chauvet that allowed the face to be turned down, designed for British officers playing polo. Besides being durable, it reinforced the foundation of excellence the brand built.

As the years progressed the success of the Jaeger-LeCoultre brand grew and innovation continued with international success. While the brand is known around the globe for their watches, they are also recognized for the Atmos table clock as well. While the brand originated in the heart of the Vallee de Joux, in the Swiss Jura Mountains, the passion that filled the heart of the founders and helped them craft these exquisite timepieces continues. The brand timepieces are modern, elegant, and accurate, but even more they are in demand and still putting Swiss watchmaking on the map.
