Ulysse Nardin Classico Collection
A history dating back to 1846, founded in the Swiss town of Le Locle, this brand has inspired quality and reliability for 160 years. Amassing numerous awards, the innovation is unequaled by other watch makers and continues as they master all the latest technologies in the casing, utilizing titanium, carbon fiber, ceramics, DLC plating, and PVD. The Ulysse Nardin Classico Collection offers so many beautiful pieces, capturing the essence of the brand, featuring the unique signature and true wearable art. When the brand was re-inventing themselves, they chose to combine a winning mix of mechanical brilliance with restoring the lost art of enamelling.
The decorative technique that the brand brought back, enamelling, creates a unique and artistic appearance to dials. Tracing the process back to Gallo-Roman times, the enamel is a glass comprising silica, comprised of red lead and potash. During the glazing part of the process, there are elements used as stabilizing agents, lime or magnesium normally, and they are mixed with the silica, then potassium sodium is added to keep the melting point low, and different colors are created using metallic oxides. The brand crafted a variety of colors, as well as transparent, opaque, and translucent pieces, each having a secret formula for their exact composition. This technique has been used through history by high-end watch makers, creating a high demand by true collectors. Skilled craftsmen practiced this art form, and it was a rare talent.
The special blue dial that the Ulysse Nardin Classico Collection features is a signature that reflects the unique nature of the brand, an artistic expression, a beautiful mastery of the enamelling process that has been perfected. Combining this technique with exquisite jewels, and masterful technical expertise, creates the collection that everyone fell in love with. The collection was first produced in 18 carat gold, and had a ‘classic’ look featuring the scarab-style lugs, and large cases, 40 mm for men and 35 mm for women. Later the collection added the beautiful 18k rose and white gold, with that polished finish. The dials are elegantly presented in black or silvered versions, as well as the special blue enamel version. Adding diamonds or sapphires for embellishment, the brand creations were unique and truly crafted by artisans that carefully mastered their talent.
The watches each feature a self-winding mechanical movement, a fitted curved sapphire crystal, and 22 carat gold centrally-mounted winding rotors, that can be seen through the sapphire crystal case back. The men’s version is equipped with a sweep seconds function and correctable date display, while the woman’s version displays hours and minutes. The timepieces are finished off with leather straps and 8k gold folding clasps. Collectors find the timepieces an excellent form of art that sits on the wrist in true elegance.
