Lange and Sohne 1815 Collection – Precise and Beautiful
In 1845, Ferdinand Adolph Lange began making German time pieces. Yet, when World War II destroyed all of the workshops and the entire company was shut down by the socialists, it seemed as though Lange’s watches would never be made again. However, when the communists were out of the country and the Berlin Wall fell, 1989 became a very good year for this family watch making business. In 1990, watches began being manufactured again in Glashutte, Germany. But, no watches were offered to the public until 1994. In 1997, a school in Glashutte was opened for those wanting to learn the trade of watch making and soon after, in 2000, the family was able to return to their roots in the Saxony region. Of course, the school is still open and still produces one of a kind time pieces. Since every watch is built by hand, only a thousand or so are made every year and if you are fortunate to purchase one, you may only buy platinum or 18-karat gold. Also you will find that there only a few collections, such as the Lange and Sohne 1815 Collection, available today.
The Lange and Sohne 1815 Collection is actually in honor of Ferdinand Adolph Lange. This is because after all of his efforts to bring employment and food to the people of Glashutte, he took the time to teach the people how to make precise watches and thus began the industry of watch making in Germany. When offered payment for his services, he never accepted it. Therefore, to honor this wonderful man, the 1815 watch collection is dedicated to him.
With only five time pieces in this Lange and Sohne 1815 Collection, one will notice the modest appearance of each watch. All are equally beautiful and yet gracious in their display and function. With 18-karat yellow gold, white gold and pink gold as well as platinum only being the options available in this watch, it is easy to see where the treasure lies. When looking at the caseback, one will find a sapphire-crystal closure that will elegantly display the movement of the fine watch.
With precise calculation, the Lange and Sohne 1815 Collection provide the wearer with a power reserve of fifty five hours. This manual time piece also embodies style with the beautifully hand stitched crocodile strap in complementary shades to the 18-karat gold or platinum chosen. Of course, as stated before, every part of this time piece is built by hand with genuine care.
