Not Everyone’s Cup Of Tea
While the Audemars Piguet Code 11.59 Collection is not for everyone, and there are mixed feelings about the technical prowess of this collection, the overall impressive movements are incredible. The collection boasts the brands first in-house self-winding chronograph movement, and the construction of the case is so impressive in craftsmanship, as well as the dials are so detailed and clever. The brand is certainly committed and standing with the collection for long term growth. There is always evolution with a collection and this one is no different. The latest self-winding models are striking, the beautiful five new sunburst lacquer dials, and the white and pink gold cases are simply exquisite.
A Case In Point
One rather interesting aspect of this 11.59 Collection is the two-tone cases using the two gold alloys. Certainly rare for the brand to combine metals, it has been done on some historical construction, more frequent in the Royal Oak and Offshore. While the numbers are very low on the production, there were actually only eight that had the combination of two types of gold. Combination of gold and steel was more common, but the combining of the gold alloys is unusual and rare. Prior to 1970 Audemars Piguet had only one watch that combined white and pink gold. The cases and dials needed to have more of a relationship, and reflect the same quality of construction that each deserved. Unusual and creative case construction has always played an important role at the brand, and the Code 11.59 octagonal case shape blends the Genta heritage and while some aspects might seem subtle, the transitions between brushed and polished surfaces are very apparent clearly showcasing the quality of the workmanship.
Dial “S” for Spectacular
The latest models for the Audemars Piguet Code 11.59 Collection are not the first or only watches to have color gradient or more complicated dials. One of the most beautiful, the minute repeater had a blue gradient dial and several others including the open worked tourbillon model. The brand understood that this breathtaking dial created a visual depth that was impressive and very eye catching. Normally the watch crystal is something that visually disappears, but the double curved crystal in this collection is one that seems invisible when looking straight on, but if you view from an angle you can see the very detailed tiered effect that has been crafted. Almost like amphitheater seating, you are awed by the view.
Moving To The Top
The new movements that are coupled with the other visual effects on the Code 11.59 Collection are well blended and provide exciting finishes with the white-gold and rose-gold cases. These new dials certainly have lifted the design elements on this collection and created that bridge bringing the timepiece case, movement, and crystal together for perfection. So while it might not be the timepiece for everyone, it fills the tradition for the brand as they work for innovation but strive for tradition. The life of this Code 11.59 is in the beginning of the cycle, every step represents creative energy on the path to a final destination.
