Over The Moon
Fifty years ago Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin were the first people to walk on the moon. The timepiece that made that journey with these astronauts was the Omega Speedmaster, so it should not be a surprise that the brand would celebrate with a 50
th Anniversary commemorative and limited edition timepiece. This new and beautiful timepiece is stainless steel and features an exquisite polished bezel made of Moonshine gold alloy. A watch that is limited to 6,969 pieces and one that collectors are just over the moon for.
Golden Moonshine
This spectacular timepiece color is slightly softer than yellow gold, and noted for the high fade resistance, as well as being able to keep the shine and luster. The blend of gold, silver and palladium is what makes the magical moonshine gold and allows for something out of this world. Design of the new Speedmaster offers a bezel ring that is polished black ceramic, and decorated with a Ceragold tachymeter scale. Of course the timepiece has commemorative features that make it a collectors dream. A subdial at 9 o’clock has the laser engraving of Aldrin climbing the ladder of the Eagle lunar module on the moon surface. There are some more subtle markings as well, one of those being a lovely Moonshine gold marking forming the number 11 at the 11 o’clock spot of course a reference to the mission number.
Giant Steps For The Future
The caseback also has a clever reference to the mission, featuring a laser-engraved footprint to showcase that first step on the moon. Above and below the footprint on this Omega Speedmaster Apollo 11 50
th Anniversary timepiece is Armstrong’s famous quote, “That’s one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind.” The new watch is powered by the caliber 3861and captures the heart of the original movement that was used to power that special Moonwatch with just a few special additions. The watch will be packaged in a special box, two mission patches, two engraved plates, and an additional Velcro strap that is significant in meaning to show the protective thick cork ablator that protected the crew from the intense heat upon launch. Omega also included a very special display stand that just is the perfect finish for such a special anniversary timepiece.
