In October 2011, despite the rather public difficulties Tiger Woods has faced, Rolex signed Woods to a multi-year sponsorship deal. Experts in the watch industry believe the reason Rolex would risk it all on Tiger Woods is threefold: One, Woods is one of the top players in the industry, on par with other Rolex brand ambassadors like Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, and Gary Player. Two, valued at $5 billion, Rolex can afford to take the risk that Tiger Woods will recover his tarnished image by the time next season’s winner’s circle is announced. Three, Rolex is intensely trying to expand into the Asian market, where Tiger Woods is the golf God.
Golf and luxury watches are a partnership made in marketing heaven, and many luxury watch makers choose pro golfers and other sports celebrities as brand ambassadors, Audemars Piguet among them. Audemars Piguet has welcomed a number of pro golfers into the family, creating a deep connecting between golf and luxury watches. Some of the most well-known and respected pro golfers have served as brand ambassadors for Audemars Piguet.
Graeme McDowell – Royal Oak Offshore
Graeme McDowell has been an ambassador for Audemars Piguet since 2005. He has been seen sporting the Limited Edition Rubens Barrichello, the Grand Prix, and Offshore Survivor. The partnership has served Audemars Piguet well, as McDowell won the 2010 U.S. Open and the 2010 Wales Open. |

Rory McIlroy is one of the youngest gold pros to sport the Audemars Piguet. He can be seen wearing the Royal Oak Chronograph 1359. Being an ambassador for Audemars Piguet brought good luck to McIlroy, who won the U.S. Open in 2011, setting two records: achieving the lowest score in the tournament’s 111-year history and being the youngest to win it. |
Darren Clarke – Royal Oak Prototype
Darren Clarke, a four-time Ryder Cup winner, became the third Audemars ambassador to win a Grand Slam tournament in July 2011. He was wearing an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak prototype in titanium, an incredibly light design. Clarke has been an ambassador for
Audemars Piguet since 2005, winning 14 tournaments on the European circuit before winning the grand slam tournament that placed him among the top 30 golf pros in the world.
Additional Audemars Piguet brand ambassadors include
Lee Westwood,
Vijay Singh,
