Race With Time
The Raticosa Pass is a legendary road rising over 1000 meters above sea level and winding through the Appenine mountains in Italy. Known as the most challenging stage of the Mille Miglia road race and affliated with the famous Italian carmakers. Chopard has for decades partnered and worked with the race paying tribute with amazing watches. This special racing inspiration timepiece, the Limited Edition Mille Miglia Chronograph Raticosa Watch is another in the line for the brand honoring the namesake.
Case In Point
The stunning ergonimically designed 42 mm diameter case for the Chopard beauty is constructed of stainless steel. Offered in two very distinct dial color choices, off white and varnished black, the Limited Edition Mille Miglia Chronograph Raticosa Watch is a show stopper. The case for the chronograph features many of the characteristics of the existing brand models, the pump style pushers, screw down crown shaped in a steering wheel motif, and all protected with the glare proof sapphire crystal. Both dials are created using large Arabic numerals and the beige Super-LumiNova which is also coating the rhodium plated baton hands for hours and minutes. Chopard crafted a motorsport inspired tachymeter scale to frame the dial for the collection which allows drivers wearing the timepiece to use the chronograph to calculate the speeds based on distance and travel time. Subdials are adorning the display at 3, 6, and 9 o’clock to track seconds and elapsed hours and minutes as well the date is placed in an aperture at 4:30.
Heart and Soul
Beating in the heart of the Limited Edition Mille Miglia Raticosa is the self-winding, COSC chronometer-certified movement, 28,800 vph displayed in the clear sapphire exhibition window and possessing a 42 hour power reserve. That tribute logo in bright red, “1000 Miglia” matching the one on the dial is elegantly presented in the perimeter of the window on the case back, along with the limited edition engraved number. Limited to 500 pieces each, the timepieces are finished with chestnut brown leather strap, designed with perforated pattern found on the classic leather racing gloves worn by each of the race drivers. The exquisite beige stitching was set to match the color of the dial’s hands and numerals, then lines with a black rubber inner layer, featuring a tread pattern that found inspiration from Dunlap tires that are found on the vintage cars. Quite the watches, these creations are a dream for collectors who love fine horological timepieces, and vintage racing fans.
