Chopard has been tied to the motorsports industry for a number of years, partnering with Mille Miglia, Porsche’s 24 hour racing teams and of course the famous and historic Grand Prix at Monaco. The brand created lines of Race Edition timepieces, but certainly these two new chronographs, the Chopard Grand Prix de Monaco Historique 2018 Race Edition Watches will find their places among the finest in history.
The brand crafted these two new pieces to commemorate their partnership as well as being the official timekeeper for the race. These new chronographs will be created in two variations, a titanium and steel model, as well as a titanium and steel version with 18k rose gold accents. The rose gold timepiece is beautiful with the blue accents and compliments the orange as well for a great match. The titanium crown was designed with a steering wheel motif and have the pushers shaped like engine pistons. This detailing keeps the racing foundation in the forefront. The design features the blue bezel with a tachymeter set with white indicators and then the orange markers, so it is extremely legible. The dial was crafted with a standard 6, 9, and 12 register layout, and is complete with a date.
The movement is not identfied by the brand, just that it is a mechanical self-winding chronograph movement. Based on what we know about Chopard, we believe reviewing the dimensions of the movement, it is the ETA Valgranges A07.211, which has been used by the brand in most of their more affordable chronographs. The movement beats at 28,800 vph and is featuring a 46-hour power reserve. The timepiece is water resistant up to 100m thanks to the screw down caseback which also is designed with a Grand Prix de Monaco motif. To finish off this exquisite timepiece, the strap is a perforated leather contrasted with orange stitching and a matching NATO strap.
The Chopard Grand Prix de Monaco Historique Chronographs are both excellent additions to the lines and show how well the brand does when crafting a sport chronograph with the racing inspiration. There is no doubt a part of all of us who wants to own one of these exquisite pieces, if for no other reason than to be a part of history.
