Partners since 1988, Chopard and Mille Miglia have been in the race together bringing beauty, inspiration and brilliance to the world. The most prominent sports watch series has been through many iterations as the brand has interpreted that specific style that the Italian road race brings to the table. The collection returns each year with new limited editions that gather their ideas from classic cars and a tradition of distinct racing. This year, despite the challenges, brings a new pair of watches, as well as new inspiration, and new interpretations for this iconic series. Race to the Finish
While the 2020 edition for the race is postponed to late October because of COVID, Chopard has unveiled the new editions bringing excitement and anticipation for the event. The two new models feature the elegant ‘Azzurro’ dials, that steel blue hue that is contrasted by the ‘Mille Miglia’ red accents. These blue dials certainly are the focal point of the timepieces, rich in tone and providing a depth and dimension to the watches that is dynamic in appearance thanks to the round brushed pattern. This new collection showcases the steel GTS Chrono with the Power Control that is in steel and pink gold. The Azzurro Power Control is equipped with an automatic time and date, and a power reserve indicator that took inspiration from the automotive fuel gauge. Each of the watches brings a character and personality that separates them just perfectly. The Chrono is crafted in a 44mm steel case with a striking blue tachometer bezel and mushroom style pushers. The circular satin-brushed blue dial is beautiful, and very elegant but sporty. The second design, the power control is offered in a two-tone style that combined the steel case with pink gold detailing on the winding crown, hands and hour markers and bezel. Chopard presented this one in a 43mm and again provided an exquisite blue aluminum bezel marked in five minute increments to help facilitate time recording. These limited edition timepieces are very sporty for those that follow the automotive racing arena, but they are also classic, handsome and precise in every detail.
Power under The Hood
The Chopard Limited Edition Mille Miglia GTS Azzurro Power Control and Mille Miglia GTS Azzurro Chrono are vibrant on the outside and inside. The Chrono is powered by a certified automatic movement featuring more the Valjoux 7750, 12-9-6 characteristic layout. The watch caseback is also engraved with a checkered flag pattern that is topped with the Mille Miglia arrow. The other model has an exhibition caseback with a clear view of the in-house 01.08-C self-winding movement. The limited edition collections are topped at 750 pieces for the Chrono and 500 pieces for the Power Control. The watches are completed with a luxurious blue perforated calf leather strap and a rubber lining that was inspired by Dunlop racing tires. That inner soft blue rubber lining is what sets these watches apart because it helps manage sweat and adds a tire tread pattern that is like the cherry on top of the sundae. The timepieces are just a perfect mix taking the best elements of the past and bringing in new dramatic but vintage elements. Adding these to any collection is marvel, but those that are into automotive collectibles will find these a must have.
