Back in 2009 the first Harry Winston Histoire de Tourbillon was created and now one of the finest pieces within the collection, the 5, has made it debut. Each piece built upon the next release for technical challenges and the brilliance of the movement, as well as the complication and design. While the 4 certainly took things to an entirely new level on both precision and performance, this latest release reveals the truly exceptional mechanism behind this movement.
The brand wanted to really keep the focus on this mechanism, and the execution, so they had to take a new approach and that direction is how this miniature mechanical magnificence was born. The movement had to be completely reorganized, creating levels for the movement, bridges that were laid just below the surfacen and the tri-axial then overseeing it all. Comprised of 381 components, 57 jewels and 21,600 vibrations per hour, this manual winding mechanical masterpiece also has a 50 hour power reserve.
How can you really convey the brilliance put together in this Harry Winston Histoire de Toubillon 5? Well the internal carriage contains the balance spring and escapement pinion, the triple axis movement sits in the bulbous cage showcased under the sapphire crystal dome on the left side of the case. The revolving of the three axis points in the series of cages happens at different times, the outermost cage once every 300 seconds, the middle cage once every 75 seconds and the innermost once every 45 seconds.
Manufactured in Geneva, the brand pieces were developed as limited edition, exclusive with only 20 pieces, making them among the most rare and exquisite timepieces in the world. Functionally the hours and minutes will be indicated on separate discs on the right of the dial, and the seconds counter will be near the tourbillon area. The 47 mm case is a little thicker than many others sitting at 21.7 mm, but looks great on the wrist. Produced in 18k rose gold, a signature brand design case, and finished with a black alligator strap.
Harry Winston has never worried about beautiful design, they look more for unique and unusual and this collection is no different. So while the limited edition quantity makes this a highly collectible piece, the fact that it is not the style that Swatch normally produces could very well make it even harder to find. So if you like to stand out and be different than everyone else, this collection should definitely be on your list.
