For those not familiar with the brand, Hublot in French means “porthole”, which was the subtle aesthetic influence behand the case designs for the timepieces. The brand began in the early 1980’s and captured the luxury feel with the masculine designs, and the Big Bang 44 ‘Original’ watch. Definitive and dramatic this timepiece from the beginning to the newly released is the most coveted of them all.
While portholes were not first produced by this brand, they were the first to be the namesake. During a low period the brand was purchased by Jean-Claude Biver, who had previous experience in the industry and wanted to reform and relaunch with what we will refer to as a “Big Bang”. Anyone familiar with the brand knows that Jean-Claude’s slogan was “the art of fusion” and that is exactly what this watch was born from. A classic porthole designed case, but crafted for the new generation of timepieces, a large bold size, a stronger very masculine feel, and certainly that fusion of materials, colors, textures and aesthetics that bring it together as a masterpiece.
The brand is responsible for leading the industry in creating a luxury style timepiece with materials that were more streamlined, and certainly this design allowed for the fusion, the mix and match of colors and materials. The conceptual case showcasing the modular design, all part of the original, and combining that with steel, titanium, rubber, ceramic and resin, results in brilliance.
The Hublot Big Bang 44 ‘Original’ Watch lead the way for other brands 44mm wide timepieces, but nothing compares to the comfort and overall feel of this one. Inside the piece is just as well fused as the outside, 257 components, a flat AR-coated sapphire crystal, water resistant to 100m, and finished with a ceramic bezel. It does have that sport look, and similar functions, comes in a variety of colors and brings amazing signature elements. Other than the obvious case shape, the Big Bang signature hour and minute hands, the style of the hour markers, and certainly the core construction that remains true to the brand.
So classic grace and timeless excellence are maintained for this ‘Original’ timepiece and continue to be a staple for the brand, a foundation that has been used to build magnificence in every other watch Hublot produces.
