Hublot Big Bang Depeche Mode Watch
While celebrities and stars have long been a vehicle for watch makers to launch new collections, as well as a brand ambassador for the manufacturers, one brand seems to utilize a dual platform, celebrities and a cause. Hublot has aligned itself with Depeche Mode and a charity for safe drinking water, to launch a new limited edition masterful timepiece.
The Hublot Big Bang Depeche Mode Watch is the latest in a line of collections the brand has created for special causes. In the past we have witnessed the Ferrari stamped UAE edition, the World Boxing Council edition, and the Atelier courtesy watch. All the collections used to raise money for charities, or the needy.
This latest charity is very close to the heart of chairman, Jean-Claude Biver, and will allow proceeds from the sale of the watches to help provide clean drinking water to those who normally would not have access to it. This limited edition timepiece will run only 250 numbered units.
The watch is packed with features starting with a reference that is brand designed, 311 CI 1170 VR DPM13 movement, and only made for this special collection. Sporting a casing that is Big Bang 44mm, micro-blasted ceramic, and artistically designed with a pattern for a more rugged look. The bezel is striking with six black PVD Titanium screws, and the exquisite sapphire crystal cover and the anti-reflective coating.
Hublot and Depeche Mode made the announcement in Berlin that they would join together in raising money for the charity, Water, which helps deliver the life substance to developing parts of the world. As the band begins their 2013 European Tour they will focus on marketing the new limited edition watches for sale, and in addition to proceeds benefiting the charity, it will allow a heightened awareness of the growing problem around the globe.
This partnership is not the first for these two forces, as they have joined together on previous occasions to raise money for other charities. In 2010 the duo raised funds for the Teenage Cancer Trust, performing a show at London’s Royal Albert Hall, and featured a unique auction that sold 12 exclusive boxed sets, containing a Hublot watch designed with the cover of one of Depeche Mode’s 12 studio albums on the dial, and it also included a vinyl and digital version of each album, a framed CD in gold, and autographed stills.
The team can certainly put together some excellent collections and this one will be no exception. With nearly 800 million people (about 1 in every 9 people globally) lacking access to safe drinking water, this charity is dedicated to finding answers. The charity has to date funded over 8,100 water projects, bringing access to clean and safe drinking water to a little over 3.2 million people in 20 countries.
Aiming to break their previous record, The Hublot Big Bang Depeche Mode Watch will expand from the previous designed 12 watches, to this collection of 250 in efforts to gain a miraculous amount of funding for such a worthwhile charity.
