IWC Ingenieur Chronograph Racer will be launched at SIHH 2013

The luxury watch world has a lot of different names that enthusiasts respect and love, and among them IWC Schaffhausen is one of the best. IWC has a rich history of quality, and in recent years it has focused on improving some of its existing collections. The Pilot's Watch collection was the focus for 2012, but according to most information it seems as though the Ingenieur Collection will be the company's primary focus. This is the IWC line of sporty luxury watches, and first on its list is the newly redesigned IWC Ingenieur Chronograph Racer, expected to debut at SIHH 2013.

The Ingenieur collection debuted in the 1950s with an industrial look that made a distinct impression in the industry. But IWC has recently partnered with the Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One team, and as a result of that new partnership the CEO of IWC, Georges Kern, decided that the time has come to modify one of its most well-known and well-respected collections. While the company is expected to redesign all of the watches in this collection, the only one that has been made public thus far is the Ingenieur Chronograph Racer.

This new design features a stainless steel case and a rubber strap available with a leather or textile inlay, or on a classic steel bracelet complete with button-operated clasp. The instantly recognizable five screw bores in the tachymeter-scale bezel are easy to spot and help the watch stand out as an IWC, and by using the chronograph and the tachymeter a driver can measure speed as they pass various distances. This watch marks a fine first entry for the new partnership between ICW and Mercedes Formula One, and the timepiece also features an engraved image of a Formula One car right on the case back.

IWC is expected to release a number of additional new designs from the Ingenieur line including features such as moon-phase indicators, tourbillion, perpetual calendars, and more. The company says to expect top of the line movements, highly sophisticated functions, and quality Formula One level materials. All of these new models are expected to debut at the 2013 SIHH, although at the moment the only specific information we have is based solely on the Chronograph Racer.

Watch lovers should expect demand for these new watches to be high. IWC has long been a major name in the luxury watch world, and these new designs will likely sell quickly.
