IWC Pilots Watch Chronograph Boutique Edition

Excellent legibility, and a clear organized dial, coupled with meeting demanding conditions are all key features of the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph. So it should not really be surprising that IWC has released a new Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Boutique Edition. Clearly this timepiece shares similarity with the classic aviation watches, but that inspiration has taken another step and has new features that make it stand out more than ever. A steel case that is constructed at 43mm in diameter and 15.3mm tall. A fairly standard size for these chronographs making it a nice fit on the wrist.

The heart of this robust 79320-calibre, an automatic chronograph movement that showcases a 44 hour power reserve, 25 jewels and a frequency of 28,800 bph. The dial features three registers that display running seconds, elapsed minutes and elapsed hours tracked by the chronograph. There are sub-dials at 12 and 6 o’clock that are used for aggregate timing while the red seconds hand sitting at 9 o’clock provides indication the timepiece is running normal. The soft iron inner case is designed to provide optimum protection against external magnetic fields.

The timepiece offers the day and date function, which is perfect for this watch, it is aesthetic on the dial, and the functionality a fit that is appreciated by the wearer. The dial overall is stunning, providing a clean design with white markers that are contrasted with the black dial, and featuring hands and lume plots at 12, 3, 6 and 9 that are painted to highlight with beige faux-patina style lume. On this IWC Pilots Watch Chronograph Boutique Edition the patina plays on this vintage style and design to be breathtaking.

The design of the sub-dials provides a nice subtle radial texturing which is exquisite here breaking up the smooth dial design. Placing a squared-off hour hand and very slightly pointed minute hand on this timepiece have given character to the watch making it similar to some of the older designs. The timepiece is water resistant to 60 meters and features a sapphire crystal. As the boutique edition it was created to boost online presence for IWC, allowing people who were not familiar with the brand to access the amazing creations, or those that might not be aware of the Pilot’s Watch to see how fabulous they are. The timepiece is packaged with a green textile/NATO strap which might be considered simple, but works for this chronograph and the online exclusive that is being offered until October of 2018.

The brand is trying to be creative in their work to increase online presence and certainly by introducing this exciting timepiece as a limited edition they will catch the eye of many new customers. So certainly it should be a watch that gets a second look for anyone that is not familiar with either the brand or the style.
