Pirates of Pens
The famous Italian luxury brand, Montegrappa, is well known for their writing instruments and watches with creative and unique designs. From the release of the Chaos watch collection the brand was recognized for flamboyant and highly decorated watch collections. For those not familiar with Chaos, the collection was designed in collaboration with Sylvester Stallone, and showcased three-dimensional skulls, snakes, and ‘roads of fire’. That design inspired the My Guardian Angel watch and proved that theme watches with some matching limited-edition pens were very well received. So it should be no surprise for this latest edition the Montegrappa Pirates watch, a compliment to the Pirates writing instruments collection and a coincidental release with Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.
Skulls & Daggers
The eccentric details that embellish this Pirates timepiece begins with precious metal overlays with intricate details that creates these masterful reproductions of buccaneer culture motifs. The timepieces are crafted in a 43mm case that is finished either in Sterling Silver or Sterling Silver with Vermeil yellow gold accents. Montegrappa did such an amazing job of piratical elements and placing the meticulous details like the grinning Jolly Roger skull that has a dagger placed in his teeth sitting above the 12 o’clock and certainly the centerpiece of the timepiece. Then the four small skulls that are placed in each corner forming the lugs. The other creative embellishments are swords, marine ropes, sails, chains and mermaids, along with other pirate items that are completed with the crown featuring a pattern of a ship’s wheel. Who knew that Pirate watches were so popular along with skull watches, all included in the collection.
Heart and Soul
The Montegrappa Pirates watches will of course be limited edition productions with 88 pieces each. The unique timepieces that the brand creates are always breathtaking, and these are no exception. The inner heart of this watch is powered by the trusty ETA 2824 automatic movement, and finished with a stingray leather strap that completes the theme the brand has developed. While there is a lot of similarity with the dial and handset to that of the Chaos watch, the character of the timepiece is still captured with brushed Roman numerals and sword-style hands. So while Pirates may not always seem to have a soul, there is certainly one inside these timepieces. If you are looking for that magical timepiece for your collection, then don’t be afraid of any curse, or that you might have to go to the World’s End, there could be no Stranger Tides than this Pirates watch, and you can be sure that Dead Men Tell No Tales so get it while you can.
