Zenith Pilot Montre d’Aeronef Type 20 GMT 1903 Watch

In honor of the Wright Brothers, the first to fly the sky, Zenith has created this limited edition Pilot Montre d’Aeronef Type 20 GMT 1903 Watch. The brand has been one of the few horological experts to create timepieces for aviation. The watches that are crafted for this field all share a few common aspects, like the prominent main crown, which is designed to allow for ease of use when you are wearing gloves, or the large dial that of course increases very easy readability, and of course one of the most important features, accuracy.

The brand has no problem meeting these obvious requirements and then sets the bar for other timepiece manufacturers with this latest design. Crafted from DLC coated titanium, the timepiece has almost a black hue. While the oversized piece might seem heavy the titanium case is lightweight and stronger than steel. The measurement on this case is 48 mm in diameter and 15.8 mm for the height. The large main crown is ridged for easy use with bare hands or gloves, and sitting at the 10 position in the middle is the inscription that details the individual limited edition number (xxxx/1903).

Zenith has engraved the case back with a depiction of Orville Wright and his aircraft the ‘Flyer’ with Wilbur Wright running alongside at Kitty Hawk beach where the historical first flight took place. While it might be an inner miracle, the automatic Elite caliber 693 is also attractive, decorated with the Cotes de Geneve pattern. Beating at a consistent 28,800 vibrations per hour and holding a 50 hour power reserve.

The Pilot Montre d’Aeronef Type 20 GMT 1903 Watch is designed with a black dial that has been sandblasted 5 times creating this very unique finish. One of the most striking features of this timepiece is the Arabic numeral hour markers, made completely from Super-LumiNova. The hands of the timepiece are crafted from black ruthenium, and then coated, making the visibility clear in any light conditions. This model uses a central hand tipped with red to indicate the GMT.

Zenith has honored the pair of flyers with this creation and finished it with a spectacular beige suede strap. Water resistant to 100 meters, and covered with a glare proof sapphire crystal on both sides, it is a perfect addition to any timepiece collection. The Swiss watchmaker has been adding to this collection for quite some time but of course this edition is limited to 1,903 pieces to further mark the significance. Even if you are not a pilot you are sure to love this Pilot Montre d’Aeronef for your timepiece, keeping you on time and in style.
