The A. Lange & Söhne Odysseus Chronograph 463.178 is a technically significant model as the manufacture's first self-winding chronograph. Limited to only 100 pieces, it combines the sporty architecture of the Odysseus collection with an entirely new chronograph movement and the finishing standards traditionally associated with A. Lange & Söhne. This example is from 2025 and is offered in unworn condition.
The 42.5 mm stainless steel case measures approximately 14.2 mm thick and is integrated with a stainless steel bracelet. Its black dial is accented by red chronograph details and incorporates Lange's signature outsize date and a separate day-of-week display. Rather than using conventional chronograph subdials, the chronograph seconds and minutes are displayed centrally, preserving the clean architecture of the dial.
The watch is powered by the automatic A. Lange & Söhne Caliber L156.1 DATOMATIC, a complex manufacture movement consisting of more than 500 components and offering approximately 50 hours of power reserve. It combines the chronograph with hours, minutes, small seconds, outsize date, and day-of-week functions.
A sapphire crystal protects the dial, while the transparent sapphire crystal caseback reveals the elaborately finished automatic movement. Water resistance up to 120 meters reinforces the genuinely sporting character of the Odysseus collection.
